Nestled
between the evergreens alongside the Bow River Pathway at the intersection with
the pedestrian bridge crossing to Edworthy Park is Angel’s Cappuccino and IceCream. Established in 1997 this iconic gem
has become synonymous with this section of the pathway and is frequented by
young and old alike. A common rendezvous
location for friends or a pitstop during a workout session along the local
pathway, a detour into Angel’s is certainly a refreshing encounter.
As far as
location and outlook is concerned this would be one of my top picks for a
perfect place to open our coffee shoppe.
With plentiful passing foot traffic from late spring through to late
fall, a warm retreat from the frigid chill in the winter, and relatively
extensive – albeit often full – parking facilities, the menu offered at Angel’s
has something for everyone, year-round.
Offerings range from sandwiches to salads, burgers to breakfasts, fresh
baked goods and, of course, ice creams.
I happened to sneak in here recently and succumbed to an indulgently generous
slice of deep dish apple pie to accompany my Luscious London Fog tea. The friendly serving staff were happy to embellish
my warmed pie with copious dollops of fresh cream. I took a few moments to enjoy the view of the
passing pedestrians, flowing Bow River and falling leaves while seated at one
of three high tables inside the very compact shop front.

I could
hardly be blamed for eavesdropping on the conversations that some of the patrons,
who have clearly frequented Angel’s on a regular basis over the years, were
having with the Staff about the upcoming changes to the facility. Angel’s will be relocated by the City during
the Fall of 2017 to a new, larger building only a few paces away. Hearsay tells me that the kitchen alone will
be the size of the existing old location while seating space for 40 indoor guests
will be an increase of six-fold from the current facility! While the view and coziness might be slightly
compromised compared to the rustic ambiance of the old venue, one can be sure
that Angel’s Cappuccino and Ice Cream will continue to be a family-favourite location
for years to come!
